It is first and foremost an emulator front-end. This "GameBase" that I have put together contains every US released Sega Genesis game (no homebrews or hacks)
That's all 739 US released games. *
All of them have front cover scans (except one, anyone have a cover scan for Bio-Ship Paladin?) and over 200 have pdf manuals. In addition, more than half have the game soundtracks available to listen to.
This one download contains everything (that I can find) Sega Genesis in one package. This gamebase started it's life as a "Sega Megadrive GB" created by SexyWayne (of GB64 Fourms). I took his GB and removed all non-US released roms (replacing a few), added a couple (like 6-Pak and Sonic Classics). I added the box scans and then I added the manuals and music.
*Note: There are 2 US games (Power Instinct and Triple Score) that appear to be undumped, they are being represented by thier foreign counterparts.**
**Note:It now seems as if Power Instinct was never released in the US at all. Discussion is here
http://www.underground-gamer.com/forums.php?action=...mp;topicid=20740 Now if you have never installed a Gamebase before it can be a very tricky (and daunting) task.
If you have installed a GameBase before and you want to jump right in the only really tricky part is that my GameBase install location is..
C:\Program Files\emu\GameBase
...not the default..
C:\Program Files\GameBase
If you want to use the default just set up your folders proper and you should be good.
Now, for the rest you who have never installed a GameBase before I will try to lay out some detailed instructions.
Things you will need that are not in the download.
1- GameBase - Download from here
http://www.bu22.com/ 2- a Sega emulator (I use Kega Fusion)
3- a PDF viewer
4- a music player for .gym and .vgz files (winamp and plugins are included)
OK, The thing is, as long as you install everything in the same place as the original , it should all work proper.
Here's the tricky part, make sure you install GameBase in...
C:\Program Files\emu\GameBase
The default is...
C:\Program Files\GameBase
DO NOT use the default unless you want to manualy set up your folders (more later)
Next unRAR the big archive from this torrent put the "Sega Genesis USA" folder into the "GameBase" folder
eg: C:\Program Files\emu\GameBase\Sega Genesis USA
Now, if you are using the same emu as me (Kega Fusion 3.5) just install to..
C:\Program Files\emu\GameBase\Sega Genesis USA\Emulators\
..and you are good to go.
If not, install your own emu there anyway and use the "emulator set up wizard" (Shift+Ctrl+F12 in the program)
You will want to install on your computer (if you don't have already) a PDF viewer and a music player. For the music, what I did is this. I installed winamp lite (unchecking almost all of the options) in...
C:\Program Files\emu\GameBase\Sega Genesis USA\Emulators\
...and then put a Sonic skin (included) on it and set it up as my music player. (of couse I needed to put the plugins for .gym and .vgz files (included) into the winamp plugin dir) The end result looks like this.
Now if all has gone right you should be able to start GameBase click the Sega Genesis icon and you're all set..
..If you start up and gamebase gives you some issues with loading files or " file was not found in any of your extra paths"..blah,blah...
Here's where you set up the paths manualy. Press (ctrl+L)
You will see this
Go thru all the tabs and select the proper folders. Then click "Tools" at the top and select "Verify Available Flies".
Well now nobody ever said GameBase installation was easy, but the end result is really nice
